Octopus, Vattenfall, Enlight and Enertrag back new clean energy projects

Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust agreed to buy the 55 MWp Barnsdale Solar Park in West Yorkshire for about £34.6 million, targeting commercial operation in March 2027. Vattenfall selected Fluence to build a 254 MW battery with more than 1,000 MWh at Brunsbüttel, Germany, on the former nuclear site. Enlight Renewable Energy and Enertrag started construction on the 200 MW/840 MWh Bertikow battery project in Brandenburg.
Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust's proposed purchase covers a West Yorkshire solar farm with 40 MW export capacity, expected to produce enough power for roughly 19,000 homes. Goldbeck Solar is building it, and a government-backed inflation-linked Contract for Difference extends to 2041.
Vattenfall's German battery would use Fluence's Gridstack Pro 5000 under an EPC and maintenance arrangement, connecting to 50Hertz's 380 kV network. Enlight and Enertrag's Brandenburg project has a seven-year EDF Trading offtake and Entrix optimisation, with initial commissioning set for late 2027.
These projects could affect communities near West Yorkshire, Brunsbüttel, and Brandenburg through construction activity, land use, and grid connections. Battery storage may help network operators balance variable renewable output, potentially supporting reliability as more clean power comes online. Households and businesses might experience indirect effects on power costs or resilience, though these depend on market and regulatory conditions. Construction and maintenance work may create temporary or specialized employment. Overall, benefits and disruptions may vary by location and project timeline.
