Mach9 secures $34M for AI-driven civil engineering CAD

Mach9 started by building inspection hardware for civil engineers but shifted to AI-powered CAD software after finding data workflows were the bigger obstacle. The company announced a $34 million Series A co-led by First Round Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners. Its private beta has nearly 100 customers and has been used on more than 2,500 projects.
Mach9 Robotics launched in 2021 with hardware intended to speed visual inspections for civil engineers. After building it, founder Alex Baikovitz concluded the larger problem was converting scanner and image data into usable surveys, prompting the company to drop “Robotics” and focus on AI-assisted CAD.
Its private beta has attracted almost 100 customers and supported over 2,500 projects. The $34 million Series A was co-led by First Round Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners, with Prudence and Quiet Capital also participating. Mach9 says its in-house models produce centimeter-accurate geometry and draft plans that licensed engineers can review and refine.
If Mach9’s tools work as claimed, faster CAD drafting could let surveying and civil engineering firms take on more infrastructure projects with existing staff. Engineers and licensed reviewers may spend less time on repetitive drafting and more on quality checks, while project owners and communities could see shorter planning timelines. The effect may be uneven, since adoption depends on accuracy, liability safeguards, and firms’ willingness to trust AI-generated drafts.
