Netflix Shares Fall as Revenue Growth Cools and Ad Forecast Is Cut

Netflix reported third-quarter revenue of $12.87 billion and adjusted earnings of $0.87 per share, beating profit expectations. However, sales growth slowed to about 12%, fourth-quarter guidance missed estimates, and the company reduced its 2026 advertising revenue forecast. The stock fell as investors focused on weaker engagement and content leadership changes.
Netflix’s third-quarter profit beat expectations: adjusted earnings were $0.87 a share versus $0.82 forecast, and net income rose to $3.66 billion from $2.55 billion. Operating margin reached 34.6%, though management noted expense timing helped. Revenue was $12.87 billion, up about 12%, continuing a slowdown from 16.2% in Q1 and 13.4% in Q2.
Fourth-quarter revenue was guided to $13.44 billion, just below the roughly $13.5 billion consensus, implying about 11.5% growth. Full-year 2026 revenue was narrowed to about $51.1 billion near the low end, while the ad forecast was cut to about $2.7 billion from $3 billion. India stood out with 24% higher viewing hours and record paid net additions.
Netflix’s weaker outlook could affect investors, including pension and retail shareholders, through lower portfolio values. Subscribers may see changes in pricing, ad-supported tiers, and content spending as the company seeks growth. Advertising partners may reassess campaign plans after the forecast cut, while employees could face uncertainty from content leadership changes and job cuts. The broader streaming market may also feel pressure if slower engagement and revenue growth prompt rivals to adjust their strategies.
