Tesla’s Q3 results show stalled revenue despite Roadster stunt

Tesla reported $1.7 billion in net income on $28.0 billion in revenue for the third quarter of 2026, with revenue essentially unchanged and profit down 4 percent year over year. The results followed a 2.1 percent decline in customer deliveries and came after a flashy Roadster demonstration. Revenue beat Wall Street’s $27.9 billion estimate but fell short of Tesla’s own $28.3 billion projection.
Tesla’s third-quarter 2026 report put net income at $1.7 billion and revenue at $28.0 billion. Revenue was essentially level with a year earlier, while the report showed a 4 percent year-over-year profit decline. The top line edged past Wall Street’s $27.9 billion consensus but missed Tesla’s own $28.3 billion forecast.
Deliveries fell 2.1 percent year over year, a decline widely anticipated after the $7,500 federal EV credit ended on September 30, 2025. Elon Musk had warned of several difficult quarters. The quarter also included a Waco, Texas, Roadster demonstration using SpaceX-supplied cold-gas thrusters and news that Tesla and SpaceX had formed committees to explore a possible merger.
Tesla’s flat results may affect investors, workers, suppliers, and EV buyers. A slower sales backdrop could pressure production plans and incentives, while merger speculation may shift how customers and employees view the company. The Roadster demonstration may draw attention, but it is unlikely by itself to change near-term adoption; affordability and everyday usability may matter more for mainstream consumers.
