Houthi Videos Show Drone Strikes on Saudi-Backed Units in Yemen
The Houthis released two videos showing drone attacks on Saudi-backed forces on multiple fronts in Yemen. The footage included locally made Shawaaz first-person-view suicide drones and Rujum hexacopter bombers striking vehicles, troops, trenches, and fortified positions. The group says it has expanded its use of small drones and recently targeted Saudi military positions across the border.
The Houthi military media published the first clip on 22 October, presenting locally produced Shawaaz one-way attack drones hitting a tank on a ridge, pickups and armored vehicles on dirt tracks, and troops moving to reinforce. A second clip appeared the next day, showing Rujum bomber drones striking soldiers, vehicles, trenches and fortified sites, including targets hidden by trees or close to trenches.
The Rujum is described as an adapted Chinese YD6-1000S hexacopter with a 44-minute endurance and 2 kg payload, configured to drop munitions such as 60 mm mortar shells. According to the group, small-drone operations have increased recently, causing significant losses among Saudi-backed units and extending to Saudi military positions across the border.
The reported strikes could heighten insecurity for communities near front lines and border areas, who may face displacement, disrupted transport, and pressure on local services. Military personnel and supply routes may also be affected as small drones make vehicles and fixed positions more vulnerable.
