Five States Spearhead U.S. Grid Storage Expansion

U.S. energy storage capacity has surged from 6,000 megawatt-hours in 2020 to over 175,000 megawatt-hours today, helping grid operators manage rising demand from data centers and heat waves. California leads with more than 21,000 megawatts installed, and its main grid operator recently saw battery discharge exceed 13,000 megawatts, covering a third of state demand. Nevada and other states have enacted policies that are already exceeding their storage targets.
