Rajasthan launches tender for 900 MW Rampura pumped storage project
RRECL has invited bids to select a developer for a 900 MW/5,400 MWh pumped storage project at Rampura in Tonk district, Rajasthan, designed to generate for six hours daily. The project will be developed through a public-private partnership using tariff-based competitive bidding, with the developer handling design, financing, construction, approvals, grid connection and water infrastructure before operating it under a 40-year BOOT arrangement. Bids are due November 30, 2026, and require a bid security of Rs 1.08 billion along with technical and financial eligibility.
Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited issued the call on October 9, 2026. The selected partner would handle planning, engineering, financing, detailed project report preparation, equipment procurement, construction, installation, testing and commissioning, plus government permissions, environmental and forest consents, grid and evacuation works, reservoirs, access roads and water infrastructure.
Bidders must pay a processing charge of Rs 2.36 million, GST included. Technical eligibility can be met through hydropower or lift irrigation experience, including dams, reservoirs or tunnels; each qualifying project must exceed Rs 3 billion, with cumulative costs above Rs 54 billion. Financial eligibility requires net worth of Rs 10.8 billion, or that amount in cumulative assets under management for alternative investment funds.
If built, the Rampura facility could help Rajasthan balance variable solar and wind output, improving grid reliability for households, businesses and public services. Construction and long-term operation may create local jobs and demand for skills, while better storage could support wider renewable adoption. Communities near Tonk might also experience changes in land, water and road use, so outcomes could depend on how environmental and operational issues are managed. The project’s scale means benefits and local disruptions may both be significant.
